Specific TitlePostdoctoral Fellow in Radiology & Imaging Sciences
Appointment TypePostdoctoral Fellow
DepartmentIUSM – Radiology & Imaging Sciences
CampusIU School of Medicine Indianapolis
Position SummaryNeuroimaging Genomics LabCenter for NeuroimagingIndiana University School of Medicine, Indianapolis, IN, USA

Description

The Neuroimaging Genomics Laboratory, co-led by Drs. Kwangsik Nho and Andrew Saykin of the Indiana University School of Medicine Center for Neuroimaging (CfN), has immediate full-time openings for one or more outstanding, highly motivated post-doctoral research fellows with special interest in human genomics/computational systems biology to work on multi-omics analyses of Alzheimer’s disease and related disorders (ADRD). The Lab’s overarching goals are 1) to achieve a better understanding of the complex causes and mechanisms leading to ADRD, 2) to improve early detection and longitudinal monitoring by combining genomics, fluid biomarkers and advanced neuroimaging and 3) to identify novel targets for diagnostic applications and therapeutic intervention.Fellows will work on research problems leveraging multiple rich data sets and leading-edge analytic approaches supported by multiple NIH grants (R, U and P programs). Topics include (a) human genetics of ADRD using quantitative endophenotypes from neuroimaging and fluid biomarkers, (b) systems biology analysis of pathways from multi-omics data using multi-layered network approaches, © machine learning for identification of genetic risk factors in ADRD, (d) relation of central and peripheral omics to ADRD biomarkers and clinical measures, and (e) studies in diverse multiethnic populations to broaden our understanding of genetics and ADRD biomarkers. Fellows will take the lead in preparing manuscripts for publication and contribute to grant applications while collaborating on other projects as part of a multidisciplinary team science effort. Special opportunities afforded by this fellowship include experience working with the Genetics Core of the Alzheimer’s Disease Neuroimaging Initiative (ADNI), Indiana Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center (IADRC), Center for Computational Biology and Bioinformatics (CCBB), and multiple NIH sponsored multicenter programs including the Alzheimer’s Disease Genetics Consortium (ADGC), Alzheimer’s Disease Sequencing Project (ADSP), Centrally-linked longitudinal peripheral biomarkers of AD in multi-ethnic populations (CLEAR-AD.org), Artificial Intelligence for Alzheimer’s Disease (AI4AD.org), Alzheimer’s Disease Metabolomics Consortium (ADMC), Accelerating Medicines Partnership Program for Alzheimer’s disease (AMP-AD), and Model Organism Development & Evaluation for Late-Onset Alzheimer’s disease (MODEL-AD).Requirements

Successful applicants will have strong academic preparation (PhD, MD, MD/PhD or equivalent, in a relevant discipline), high motivation and enthusiasm for research, excellent written and oral communication skills including evidence of successful manuscript writing and publication productivity, strong intellectual curiosity, creativity, flexibility, a commitment to the scientific goals of the program, desire to make a contribution, and the ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative transdisciplinary team, which includes mentoring graduate and undergraduate students. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in one or more of the following areas: human genetics, computational neuroscience, multi-omics data analysis including RNA-Seq, and systems biology/network analysis. Strong data science skills are required. Applicants who have recently completed their terminal degree and plan to develop an independent research career are especially encouraged to apply, as are candidates from groups underrepresented in biomedical research.Application Instructions

Review of applicants will continue until the positions are filled. Please email a cover letter with a brief description of research experience, interests and goals, full CV, and contact information for three references to Dr. Kwangsik Nho (knho@iu.edu).Indiana University
